SEO guide for business owners

Local SEO cost: What should a small business actually pay for?

The short answer

My monthly SEO support starts at $650 per 30 days for one English-language website and one target country. Suitable work on one verified Business Profile can be agreed within the included technical time.

For website priorities before ongoing work, a one-time SEO audit starts at $295; a profile-only review is quoted separately. Below, compare what each scope changes, who implements it and which expenses need a separate budget. The general SEO pricing guide explains the wider working models.

Ask what the fee will change

A useful quote names the business and target area, the pages to review or improve, any Business Profile tasks, who publishes changes and how the work is checked. “Full local SEO” does not tell you whether you are buying advice or implementation.

For example, a business with three services might need a better service structure and clearer quote instructions before it needs more directory listings. Another may need to resolve an account notice before content production can help. The Maps visibility guide separates those situations.

Confirm access requirements and approval steps. Keep the domain, profile and analytics accounts under the business’s control.

My monthly scopes: capacity you can plan around

My published English-language monthly options cover one English-language website and one target country. The local work is agreed within that capacity.

Monthly scopeFee per 30 daysIncluded content and technical capacity
Focused monthly work$6502 new pages or substantial refreshes; up to 2 hours of supported WordPress changes
Content and growth$1,2504 new pages or substantial refreshes; up to 4 hours of supported WordPress changes
Broader support$2,2508 new pages or substantial refreshes; up to 8 hours of supported WordPress changes

For one verified Business Profile, suitable profile tasks can be allocated in writing from the included technical hours. They are not unlimited extra management. Research, priorities, checks and the other exact tier inclusions are set out on the monthly support page.

The page allowance covers new content or a substantial refresh, including research and writing. The technical allowance is additional capacity for supported changes.

If the budget decision is between organic work and advertising, compare local SEO with Google Ads using urgency, capacity and the full cost of a useful inquiry.

Buy the first useful phase before committing to a routine

If the cause of a problem is unclear, start with a defined review and action plan. If the review already exists, agree the implementation tasks instead of paying for the same diagnosis twice. A standard website audit should not be assumed to include a Business Profile audit unless the scope says so.

Monthly work is more suitable when there is a continuing backlog: improving service pages, testing contact paths, checking search performance and reviewing what to do next. It is not automatically the best purchase for a one-off wrong phone number or a single broken form.

You can describe the situation without selecting a package. My local SEO page explains the types of work we can scope.

Record what matters, who will do the agreed work, and how completion will be verified on the live URL.

Separate the costs that can expand the project

Ask about additional locations, languages and countries; suspension appeals; custom development; paid tools and directories; photography; advertising; and any paid placements. They are not automatically included in the monthly capacities above.

If a new website is needed, its build is a separate project. Domain registration, hosting and renewals also need a named owner and a clear price. The website cost guide helps compare the first-year budget.

Required third-party charges and applicable taxes are confirmed before work. There is no automatic subscription simply because you send an inquiry.

Judge progress in work and business terms

A short update should show what changed, what was checked, which searches and pages are moving and what the business is hearing from customers. Profile actions, website visits, submitted forms and suitable inquiries are different measures.

Google’s local ranking guidance includes distance as well as relevance and prominence. Nobody can buy a guaranteed position everywhere. A sensible budget funds work you can inspect and decisions you can understand, with an agreed review point.

If you would like a suitable starting scope, send your business, service area and main concern. You do not need to diagnose the SEO problem first.
